Y.H.S Prom wrap up - Orchids

Last weekend our local school held it's prom
here are a few corsages we did featuring orchids.

Dendrobium Orchids
These beautiful flowers are a great prom flower choice since they have such a unique
shape and they are also light weight. As you can see they come in lots of great colors,
including the dyed blue we used in our corsages.

Why we love orchids for prom corsages! #PromFlowers

Here's a design we did using bear grass to enclose the blooms. We added a few of the
stick on rhinestones to the arching grass accenting the rhinestone bracelet.

Another corsage with a braided ribbon accent.

We also added orchids to roses and freesia to create an interesting mixture of
form and texture.

Cymbidium Orchids

Another great orchid for prom- these are a bit larger than Dendrobium orchids
so all you need are a couple to make a stunning corsage...
We used mini cymbidiums in our corsages.

Cymbidium orchids come in a variety of colors as well, although if you want blue, you'll need to stick with Dendrobium orchids.

So if you want something different for your corsage, try orchids!
Talk to your local florist well before your prom, because these flowers usually need to
be special ordered.

More Bling Please!

Sometimes a girl just can't get enough sparkle!
If you're one of those girls you need to take a look at these
corsage bracelets from Fitz Design.

Diamond Eyes

Here's a Corsage I made here at Twigs using the
Diamond Eyes bracelet
I used fuchsia Bombay Dendrobium orchids, a bit of
black netting, feathers and a touch more bling
in the rhinestone sprays. It brings that sparkle from the
bracelet up into the center of the flowers in the design.

Shazaam corsage bracelet
Love these bold orange and red tones in this corsage using the Shazaam bracelet.
As you can see with this black background..
a great choice for a black dress.

Chloe's Corsage

I realized the other day that I had forgotten to post about the results of the
I had entered 3 designs- 2 I made especially for the contest
and the third was one from our local prom last year...
Chloe's corsage.

I'm fortunate to be a florist in a small town
Fortunate to know most of my customers personally.
Chloe lives just down the street.
So I had to smile when I learned that HER corsage was the winner!

Her parents came to the shop with her that afternoon to pick up her corsage.
I remember as she stood, waiting for her mom to snap the photo, I glanced at her dad
who was looking proudly at his beautiful daughter, all dressed up- not a little girl any more.

I'll never forget that look..
So proud. so full of love.
and,
just a hint of sadness.

Prom on the Rocks- Orchids

Our local prom for Yerington High School was this past Saturday
Here are a few of the corsages we did...

Orchids, specifically dyed blue Dendrobiums were popular this year.

Blue orchids with purple and lavender
Blue orchids on a Luminous bracelet with peacock feather accent
sea green & blue corsage and boutonniere

One of our stylized cuffs shown below and it's matching boutonniere-I used big chunky hot & light pink jewels- you can see a couple if you look closely- LOVED how they looked with the wire.
The bout is attached to his jacket lapel
with a magnet! yay! no pins :)

And here's the prom couple- Hayley & Kyle
I'm just guessing, but
I bet the party doesn't start until they
show up :)

One of my favorites shown below- Just look at those fabulous colors together!
fyi- These hot pink Bombay orchids are the variety used to create the blue orchids-

I loved this one too- especially with those sheer silver leaves & rhinestones. This is designed on the Versatile arm band by Fitz

Another favorite - this pretty little Cymbidium corsage with teal ribbons,
black sparkle mesh & pearl accents was left behind,
unclaimed by the young couple who ordered it.

I'll post again as soon as I get the other photos cropped!
